Cricketing greats Kumar Sangakkara, Muttiah Muralitharan and Mahela Jayawardene compliment an automotive masterpiece

Wednesday, 1st April 2015: A sporting icon, a legend and a genius came together today to launch the all-new 2016 Kia Sorento SUV in Colombo, an automotive icon in its own right, and the drive that the extraordinary trio have in common.

Driven on to a stage in the packed ‘Oak Room’ at the Cinnamon Grand, Kumar Sangakkara, Muttiah Muralitharan and Mahela Jayawardena received the keys to their new Sorento vehicles as part of the gala launch of the dramatically reengineered, wider and longer Kia Sorento, a masterpiece of elegantly sculpted surfaces and an ultra-sophisticated interior.

Already one of the most popular SUVs on Sri Lanka’s roads, Kia Sorento raises the bar for design aesthetics and class-leading performance with its 2016 Third Generation edition, which is structurally stronger, more comfortable and even safer than its predecessors.

Speaking at its ceremonial unveiling, Mahen Thambiah, Managing Director of Kia Motors (Lanka) said: “The Sorento has earned a reputation for being a genius at what it is designed for, has become an icon on our roads, and has, in just about 10 years, attained the status of a legend. KIA Motors (Lanka) Limited, the sole local distributor for the popular Korean automobile brand, has successfully deployed Oracle E-Business Suite to integrate and streamline the company’s operations. The deployment was completed in 14 months by Aitken Spence Technologies, a Gold level member of Oracle Partner Network (OPN).

Prior to the deployment of Oracle E-Business Suite, the legacy systems were providing an isolated view of the business operation, while too many tasks including intercompany invoicing were being done manually.  With the help of Oracle E-Business Suite and its modules, Kia Motors (Lanka) has completely automated the process from quotation to post-sales servicing at its head office in Colombo and its post- sales servicing centers at Peliyagoda, Baseline Road and Kurunegala. The Oracle solution has enabled KIA Motors to track end-to-end customer and vehicle history, customer sales process and advance payment, while automating intercompany sales and stocks deduction.

KIA Motors (Lanka), the sole local distributor for the stylish Korean automobile brand, has opened a sparkling new showroom and service center in Kurunegala as part of a dealer development initiative being rolled out in Sri Lanka.

Designed and equipped to international standards and guidelines stipulated by Kia, the Rs. 130 million facility is designated a ‘3S’ Kia Centre, offering Sales, Service and Spares at a prime location on the Colombo-Kurunegala road.

Speaking at the formal opening of the new center, Kia Motors (Lanka) Ltd Managing Director Mahen Thambiah said: “This is an important milestone in Kia’s growth in Sri Lanka because this is the first of many outstation service centers envisaged in our dealer development program.”

The dealer development plan would be based on Kia Motors (Lanka) making investments to build in key towns, facilities equipped with the tooling specified and required by Kia Motors, and thereafter franchising the dealerships, enabling the dealers to have better interaction with the customer within their areas. For Kurunegala, M/s Cross border Motors have been selected, with discussions on to finalize the operations under supervision and technical support from Kia Motors.
